ABOUT THE PRINTING PROCESS
How are Lipman Editions printed
The artists and I have worked closely with master printer Dimitri Levanoff from Imagefoundry to create a unique printing process of ink on paper. Dimitri utilizes digital technology in a manner that requires the same degree of expertise and labour that he puts into his etching techniques. The process demands creativity and experimentation in order to achieve the look of a lithographic print. Many printing methods are unable to recreate the depth of color and texture that we insist upon for our fine art images. We have found that by mixing other techniques such as etching and intaglio with the digital ink on paper we are able to enhance the medium for a truly original look.
Care and handling
All inks and paper are archival. Sunlight will not fade the ink but as with all fine art we try to avoid direct sunlight for prolonged periods of time. The paper may bend or crack if it is mishandled. In the event of damage, a fine art framer can wet the paper and put it through a flattening process that is perfectly safe. Paper has its own movement and is affected by weather, so it should never be dry mounted or permanently adhered to any surface.
A word about working with the artists
Each artistic method and every work of art requires its own analysis. There are no formulas for creating exciting prints. Ivo and I work together with Dimitri to push the technology beyond our expectations in order to create original images that often exist only in print form.
I also frequently work from an existing painting that we then modify according to the technique required to meet our shared vision. The artists, the printer and I are all committed to the highest aesthetic standards of printing and highest professional standards of distribution. Each print is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by the artist, the printer and the publisher.
